Open That Bottle Night – Saturday
It’s time for the yearly “Open That Bottle” night on Saturday.
You know, the suggested yearly even from the WSJ columnists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher (they are the reason you used to steal the WSJ from your work’s lobby on Fridays – well, that and the crossword – their column is on Sat now btw). So take some time and just open a bottle, maybe that special one you were hesitant about… or maybe a new one you’ll buy tomorrow, it doesn’t matter- just call up a friend and open that bottle and enjoy!February 27, 2009 No Comments
Even More SF “Hacker” Stuff

Could the Childs case put all network admins in danger? (on infoworld)What’s interesting here isn’t the charges themselves, but the charges that are missing. Namely, the charge of sabotage, computer tampering, or the like. Apparently the very allegation that’s kept him in jail for seven months wasn’t strong enough to be presented to the court as a charge. And as Venezia mentions later:
My other rants on this 5 | 4 | 3 etc… (most are links to infoworld or sfgate)In fact, if Childs is convicted of the first count for withholding passwords, it could be argued that if any network administrator fat-fingers an AAA (authentication, authorization, and accounting) configuration in a router, rendering it inaccessible for management but otherwise functioning normally, that admin has committed the same crime, albeit through negligence.

Fitz Pushes My Buttons w/ SA News
Damn that Fitz. He knows me so well that he can push my buttons and send me to the “red zone” with only one link.
Check this crap out:A councilwoman in SA wanted to rename Guenther St to Mango St. Those of you not from SA will not realize that 1) this is a historic street and 2) The House on Mango St is a book from Sandra Cisneros. 3) Sandra Cisneros (no relation to the councilwoman) is from Chicago 4) The man who really revitalized that area doesn’t even have a street named after him, and if they were to rename something down there, they should start with him (Mathis) 5) there already is a Mango St in SA, it’s on the SW side. Apparently she also suggested that SA sell off Market Square. Wow, what a strong of greatest hits. I like the comments in the article too, although I suspect that a lot of them will get taken down soon. Like this one:
Ouch. But to dismiss the criticism, fta:I propose we rename the street that Henry and Mary Alice Cisneros live on to Linda Medlar Lane!
wheeeeeeeeeeeeeCouncilwoman Cisneros seemed to recognize right away that was not feasible,. said Roselyn Cogburn, the association’s interim secretary.
Cisneros released a statement through her campaign manager that she was only looking for ways to honor the author, saying, “I did not make any specific recommendations for renaming any streets.”

Bloom for iPhone
I just thought I’d share a bit about an iPhone app I’ve been playing with a lot lately. I downloaded Bloom (it’s 3.99) from iTunes last week or so. It’s from Brian Eno & Peter Chilvers. It’s an “art project” app- but I like to think of it as an ambient music generator.
I know it doesn’t seem like I’d be in to Ambient music, but I always have some Eno on my iphone for turbulent flights or scary bus rides or stressed out days at work. Ya never know when you’ll need to calm the f*%k down right? Here’s a video of someone else playing with the app. It’s obviously better to play with the app when you have your headphones on, but you can still hear some of the background music in the video below.Bloom iPhone Application from Lawrence Brown on Vimeo. And just for fun, some youtube user’s video for Brian Eno – An Ending (from the Apollo album)

Stefania Mentioned in DC Examiner
In the early days of the Gold Rush, people flocked to San Francisco to seek their fortune in gold. It was the gateway city where miners set out with pickax, pan and shovel in hand to stake a claim in the surrounding hills. These days, California is still full of riches, but rather than seeking gold from the mines and streams, collectors come from all over the world to descend upon the rich vine-laden valleys that lie within an easy drive from the City by the Bay. moreCongrats to Paul & Stef. If you’re not already on their wine list, sign up. And start following their blog in your rss reader.

Waffle Man: Quick Vid
Okay, here’s my last post on waffles. It’s a quick vid I took when I went to finally try the waffles from the van in this post.
Now that I’ve had these waffles, the homemade waffles just aren’t the same. Plan your Wednesdays accordingly.
The other waffle posts: the first one and the vid I have no idea why I’m so tired-looking in that vid. I was fresh and peppy that morning

Testing Zoomerang Survey "Widget"
Zoomerang.com added a “widget” to display survey results on your blog:
This is just a test from an old survey of mine. Hrm, seems the widget only works on certain types of questions– which is odd because I wanted to link to an mobile survey of mine Double-hrm– I can get the html to paste the “widget” above, but the only two built-in “buttons” to do it automatically are for blogger.com and typepad.com. No wordpress? That’s odd, I remember looking at WP with the Dev team- or at leasting chatting about it on IM. Oh well, at least WP users know how to cut and paste the html…should help with some of the drupal users too.
