Blog update
I’ll be updating my blog soon- hopefully this week.
I’m going to be changing the platform I use to something with a db-backend and that allows easier posting than what I’m using currently. Because of that you may see double-posts in your rss feeds this week as I move or test things. I apologize in advance. In the meantime, I’ve changed the setup of my tumblr blog and added that to this domain. You can check it out by going to theflood.kenneths.org . I call it the flood because it’s the raw feed of things I find on the web and like to share. Some of the posts from there may make it onto the main blog, but for the most part, it’s links or clippings I like to share. And don’t worry- it won’t be a flood of copies of my twitter feed- I’ve already removed that coupling. For the most part, it’s my google shared items feed and videos or other links I come across. I hope you enjoy. I’ll post another update once my blog is updated. Thanks update2: I’m actually going to be changing the name to point to a site on posterous, not tumblr, but that change will be transparent for you.

Quick Coffee Question

Hey you espresso drinkers (I’m looking at you Caleb, Shane, Edgar and Bryan)– what beans have you been grinding and sipping lately?
I’m in a bit of rut w/ my blends and am thinking of switching up again. I usually grab Peet’s Major D or Espresso Forte, but now I’m trying to finish off a big bag of Lavazza and want to go back to Graffeo for a few weeks…..

Venting but Happy
Sorry about that last post. I just needed to remind… well, remind myself mostly, that I’m a positive guy even if I seem to be ranting a lot. Ranting comes easily for me, and I do it frequently, but I rarely go on and on about good things. Some examples-
Yesterday my express bus broke down right as we got downtown and I had to get out and hoof it to work. I whined about it, but I didn’t rave about how nice it was outside in SF yesterday morning and how good I felt taking a bit of a walk in the morning. Today I wrote a tweet about how every morning people whine about the coffee at work and lately some of them have been pouring the whole pot out if they think it’s too strong instead of just watering down their mug (I’ve whined about this before). But of course I didn’t rave about how yesterday I pulled a great shot of espresso before I left for work. It was so damn good too. I was really excited to have brunch with Angie on Saturday even though the place we went to sucked. I noticed things they did with the food that I said, “Cappy would fire someone for doing that.”* But when people asked how brunch was, I mentioned that story first, not how awesome it was to be hanging out with everyone’s favorite Georgian first and that’s just wrong. *I’m thinking about writing a longer restaurant post about things one should do vs shouldn’t do as a cook. But I have to remember to keep it positive. This brunch experience would be a good start to that.

Hi There!
Ohai! Good morning!
Despite my grumblings at 7am or the bags under my eyes, I’m really not tired or grumpy or mad. I just wanted to say that to my faithful readers. You guys know that sometimes I sound negative or pick up on stuff and run it into the ground (a lot) but that deep down I’m happy and joyful (and a smartass). Okay, now that that’s off my chest I feel better.

Crooked Little Vein
Crooked Little Vein by Warren Ellis
My review
rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’m not sure I’d recommend this to a lot of my friends, but those of you who know who Warren Ellis is will like it… a lot. The only bad thing though is that I read it too quickly.
Anyone got any other recommendations?

Sunday Tech Links
Address Book Sync (for Mac) synchs up your contacts’ Facebook profile pics to your Contacts application on your Mac. You can decide whether or not you want to switch the pics so if you already have a nice picture of your friends you won’t automatically override them with some goofy profile pic they may be using this week. [free, but donate via paypal if desired]
Want to annoy some millennials in your office? Download a dog whistle app from iTunes. Set it to high and let those young whippersnappers try to figure out where the noise is coming from. There’s one called “Dog Whistle Free” and another called “Dog Whistler (Free)“. They’re fun for about a day and a half… Not new, but a good reminder of options in iTunes– an old Lifehacker.com post on how to mark the correct settings to convert a file to “audiobook” in iTunes Link. And for those of you who love your moleskine journals– they added a print wizard to their site so you can print up various pages (text, contact list, calendar) and glue/paste them in your journals here.
