Missy- I’m glad you got a machine that works for you, that’s the more important thing. As far as the amount of water, I’d check the manual to be sure, but I think the FF wants you to run a minimum of 2ozs of espresso into the cup. So just find out if your favorite cups hold at least that much and then run it to 2.5ozs if you think the 2oz shot is too strong later.

I bought a Nespresso for my husband for xmas, it was $400, the D290 ( I think) and after many attempts and phone calls to customer service (on Christmas day no less) we could NOT get it to work. It was quite disappointing. The Nestle customer service was good but we decided to return. Since then we’ve been looking into machines and saw an ad for the X8 and the subscritption deal they are currently offering made it too good to pass up. SO we just got the machine (shipping was super fast) and so far it works – which is a step up on the Nespresso. What we can’t figure out is how long to let the water run through the capsule to get the best espresso? Thanks for any advice out there regarding these machines and our addictions.

to comment on M Blair’s post: the X8 is not the top Francis Francis machine the X1 is. (Retails at $900 apprx). I’ve owned both a Francis Francis X1 and an X5, both were great machines made of metal not plastic and both capable of using ground or an adapter for pods.

Had the machine 6 months and am sending it back for the second time for repairs (leaking from the inside). Very convenient for an office, but the workmanship is shoddy. Even the guy at Empire Fulfillment admits that there’s a problem with the X8. ArGH!
